Progeria : Discovery of the molecular mechanism that preserves neural cells from accelerated ageing

Xavier Nissan’s research team at the Institute for Stem cell Therapy and Exploration of Monogenic Diseases (I-Stem), has identified a molecular mechanism that preserves neural cells from accelerated ageing in progeria. This work, conducted in collaboration with Nicolas Levy’s research team (Inserm/UMRS910, La Timone Faculté de Médecine, Université de la Méditerranée), was achieved by using iPS stem cell. It helps explain why the cognitive functions of patients with this disease are preserved. The article was published online on June 21st, 2012 in the journal Cell Reports, and was financed in part by the AFM-Telethon.
